Dance and drum lessons for primary school children in Bagamoyo
Since 2018, we have been intensively involved in the musical education of primary school children in Bagamoyo, especially at the public elementary school “Mwambao”. This school is attended not only by the poorer population, but also by 300 AIDS orphans who live with relatives. Beyond their school education, the children only had limited opportunities. During our first visit we could sense their enthusiasm for music, even though there were no music lessons at the school.
The group has since put on three musicals and performed at the Bagamoyo International Festival.
In 2023, we started a second project at the Mwanamakuka School in Bagamoyo. The children receive traditional dance and drumming lessons twice a week from a local teacher. A performance at the Bagamoyo Festival is planned for October 2024
