Capoeira lessons for children in Salvador Bahia
With our CAPOEIRA project, we want to help children regain their physical and cognitive skills. The combination of dance and music strengthens the children’s ability to concentrate. The experience in the group and during performances allows them to grow together and feel a sense of belonging. Each child is given their own training outfit, which also helps them feel like they’re part of something. This is important for the children’s future and expands the few opportunities they have where they live, setting an important course for the future. We want every child to be able to regain their strength and self-confidence, and aim to make this possible for all children with the Capoeira project in Salvador de Bahia. The capoeira Master Gurana, who lives in Munich and Bahia, grew up in the CABUL district and learned capoeira on the street there. He runs the project together with Master Hulk. Together they teach over sixty children from the neighborhood every week. Capoeira promotes the children’s cognitive and physical skills, increases their ability to concentrate and strengthens their self-confidence.
Project information
- Classes are twice a week
- There is a beginners’ group and an advanced group
- On birthdays, the children, whose birthdays often cannot be celebrated with their family, receive a birthday cake. These are very touching moments.
In planning
